Cobolt Speechmaster Voila Talking Label Reader Instructions The features of your VoiLa Talking Label Reader are described below, assuming that you are holding the device the same way as you do a normal pen/pencil and you are right-handed. There are three buttons on the label reader. Two buttons are situated along the neck, you will be able to feel these with your index finger. The oval button, nearest the tip of the label reader is the ON button. The round button is the RECORD button. On the flat side of the label reader closest to you is the VOLUME button. The microphone for recording messages is on the left-hand side of the volume button. The speaker is also on this side of the label reader. When scanning a label hold the label reader upright, to make sure that the label is scanned in the centre. Press and release the oval button - the label reader will say “Hello”. This means the reader is ready to use. When the reader has not been used for 3 seconds it will switch off. This is indicated by it saying “Bye Bye”. Position the reader over the label you wish to read. You will find that the tip of the reader fits comfortably into the label guide, enabling you to read the label smoothly. DO NOT PRESS HARD. Starting at either end of the label, move the reader backwards and forwards over the label, until it says “Clean Label”. To record a label with your own message press the small round button near the oval button when “Clean Label” is spoken. When this button is pressed the label reader will say “Recording” followed by a beep. This button must be kept depressed whilst speaking your message. When finished, release the button and “Finished, Bye Bye” will be spoken. Example: Press and release the oval button and scan clean label. Press and hold round button and speak CD title i.e. “The Beatles - Abbey Road”. Release button. When this label is then scanned your message will be heard in place of “Clean Label”. Changing the message on a label can be achieved by following the above instructions and recording a different message after the previous one has been spoken. Browsing through the label reader to find what you have recorded is achieved by pressing the round button after switching the reader on and without scanning a label. Stepping through the items individually can be done by re-pressing the round button. Alternatively holding down the button will make the messages speak continuously. To delete a message browse through your messages as described above. When hearing a message that is no longer required hold down both the oval and round button at the same time. The label reader will then say “Erased”. Your previous message will be deleted. You can also delete one label at a time. Scan the label you wish to delete and then press the oval and round button together. When that label is then scanned “Clean Label” will be spoken. The volume of the label reader can be altered by pressing the volume button on the flat side of the reader facing you. Switch the label reader on with the oval button, then press the volume button. “Softer” will be spoken. Re-pressing this button will result in the reader speaking “Softer, Minimum”, decreasing in volume each time. Pressing the volume button again will make the reader speak “Louder, Louder, Maximum” increasing in volume each time. The labels are supplied in sheets of 50, 1 sheet is supplied with the label reader. Additional sheets can be purchased separately. The label can be affixed to either CDs, Videos, canned goods, medication containers or even sewn into garments. A maximum of 250 different labels can be used and the reader can be used with more than 1 label with the same number i.e. you could label all your tins of beans with No 1 label and they will all say the same thing. The VoiLa uses 2 x AA alkaline batteries. The battery compartment is situated at the rear of the reader, opposite side to the volume button. This can be accessed by placing your thumbs on the battery compartment, you will feel small ridges. Holding the label reader towards you apply a small amount of pressure as you slide the cover away from you. Re-fitting the cover is done by sliding the cover back until it engages with an audible click.
