TALKING CALLER ID INSTRUCTIONS FEATURES: Type 1 caller display. Displays/Announces the caller’s details as the phone starts to ring. Phone book directory - 20 recordings can be stored - 30 names and numbers can be stored Can display 13 digits or 15 characters Non volatile memory so all your data is backed up in case of power loss. Indicates incoming caller’s details, number withheld, unknown number, payphone and international call. Adjustable speaker volume control (High-Low-Off) New call / repeat call indicator. INSIDE YOUR PACKAGE YOU WILL FIND. 1) The VA182 caller ID unit. 2) A power supply 230 volt AC to 9 Volt DC out. 3) A telephone line cord - to connect the VA182 to the telephone wall socket. 4) Telephone adaptor. INSTALLATION Connect the telephone adaptor to a telephone wall socket. Plug one end of the telephone line cord to the telephone adaptor and the other end to the back of the unit marked “Line”. This is the left hand socket of the two larger sockets on the back of the unit. Plug one end of the AC adaptor into the electrical wall socket and the other end into the low voltage socket located far left on the back of the unit. Other telephone equipment; Phone, Fax and Answering Machine can be plugged into the spare BT socket on the telephone adaptor supplied. THE CALL LOG In stand-by mode, press the FORWARD/BACKWARD button to scroll through the call log. This button is located at the far right on the front of the unit and is an arrow pointing up and down, this toggle button can be used either upwards or downwards Pressing FORWARD lets you view the oldest call first and pressing BACKWARD lets you view the most recent call first. You can listen to the recorded name at any time by pressing the REC button which is located on the far left on the front of the unit. TO ERASE CALLS IN THE CALL LOG. Erase one by one: When the desired number is shown on the display, press the “C” button twice and the entry will be deleted. The “C” button can be located on the front next to the FORWARD / BACKWARD button. Erase all: In standby mode, by pressing and holding the “C” button for two seconds the display will show “CLEAR ALL?”. Now press the “C” button again to delete all of the entries in the call log. PHONE BOOK OPERATION. You can store up to 30 phone numbers and names in the phone book of this unit with a maximum of 15 characters per entry. Note : When the memory is full a “BLEEP - BLEEP” sound will be heard when you try to save a new entry. There are two ways to store a number into the phone book - manually or by copying; Manually enter a number and name into the phone book. In standby mode press the MODE button twice until “ENTER NUMBER” is displayed. The MODE button can be located on the front of the unit and is the second button in from the left hand side. Press the FORWARD/BACKWARD button to select the digits of the phone number to be entered. Use REC button to move the cursor to the right and the “C” button to delete the last number and move the cursor to the left. Press the MODE button to confirm the number. “ENTER NAME” will appear on the display. Press the REC button to start editing the name. Press the FORWARD/BACKWARD button to select the desired character symbol required. Use the REC button to move the cursor to the right and the “C” button to delete the last character symbol and move to the left. Press the MODE button to confirm the entered name and then press MODE to go back to the standby mode B) To copy from the call log into the phone book. Select the desired call from the call log. Press the MODE button twice until “ENTER NUMBER” is displayed. The number will be shown. Edit the number if necessary as (A) above. Press the MODE button to confirm the entered name, and then press MODE again to go back to the standby mode. TO BROWSE THE PHONE BOOK. In standby mode, press the MODE button once. “PHONE BOOK” will appear on the display. By pressing the FORWARD/BACKWARD button you can scroll through the phone book. If there is a recording linked with the phone number it will be announced automatically. You can listen to the recorded name at any time by pressing the REC button. SETTINGS ENTERING THE SETTING MENU. All the settings of the unit, with the exception of the volume level, can be set in the setting menu. Press and hold the MODE button and then press the REC button at the same time. The display will show “RESET V!.14c” RESETTING THE UNIT. This operation will reset all the settings to the factory defaults, and also clear all the memories. 1) Enter the settings menu. 2) Press the “C” button twice. “OK” will be displayed and the unit will reset. SETTING THE LANGUAGE. This caller ID unit supports 11 languages. Enter the settings menu. Press the MODE button once, the display will show the language in use (the default language is ENGLISH). To change the language, press the REC button. To confirm the change, press the “C” button or MODE button. DIAL PREFIX. This function is not required in the UK, please ignore. SETTING THE VOLUME. You can adjust the volume level at any time by using the volume switch. Three different volume levels are available HIGH, LOW and OFF. This slide button is located on the left hand edge of the unit. OPERATION INCOMING CALLS. When you subscribe to caller display services from BT/Cable, the caller’s phone number will appear on the display. The caller’s name will also be shown on the display if you add this to your phone book. The date and time of the incoming call will also be shown and recorded. This can be reviewed from the call log. INDICATIONS. “NEW” - It is a new incoming call. “RPT” - It is a repeating incoming call. “NUMBER UNKNOWN” - The incoming call is being sent by a telephone provider that does not offer the caller ID service or their service is not compatible with yours. “NUMBER WITHHELD” - The caller’s number cannot be displayed because the calling party have restricted their number from being sent to the receiving party. “INTERNATIONAL” - This is an incoming call from overseas. “PAYPHONE” - The caller is using a payphone. CALL BACK You can directly call back numbers that are saved in the memory, either in the call log or in the phone book, without dialling the number yourself. When the number is displayed in the call log or in the phone book, press the MODE button for two seconds until “DIALLING” appears on the display. The desired number will be dialled automatically. Pick up the telephone handset of the connected phone when “PICK UP HANDSET” is displayed. TO EDIT PHONE BOOK ENTRIES In standby mode, press the MODE button once. “PHONE BOOK” will appear on the display. Press the FORWARD/BACKWARD button to look for the number that you want to edit. When the desired record is reached, press the MODE button to start editing the record. The display will show “ENTER NUMBER”. Edit the number if necessary. Press the MODE button to confirm the number. “ENTER NAME” will appear on the display. Edit the name, then press the MODE button to confirm the entered name. “RECORD NAME” will appear on the display. Press and hold the REC button for two seconds to re-record the name or press the MODE button to go back to standby mode. TO ERASE PHONE BOOK ENTRIES. In standby mode, press the MODE button once. “PHONE BOOK” will appear on the display. Use the FORWARD/BACKWARD button to look for the number that you want to erase from the phone book. Press the “C” button twice to delete the call shown on the display. NAME ANNOUNCEMENT. You can link/tag name recordings to 20 phone numbers. Each recording has a maximum duration of 2 seconds. When the number calls again, the recorded name will be announced. If the memory for the name recording is already full, a “BEEP-BEEP” sound will be heard. TO RECORD A NAME ANNOUNCEMENT. There are three ways to record a name announcement. A) To record a name entry in the call log or phone book: Browse the call log or the phone book until the display shows a callers telephone number. Press and hold the REC button for 2 seconds until the unit plays a “BEEP” sound, then you can begin to record 2 seconds of name announcement. After a recording is finished, the unit plays back the recording you have made. To re-record the name, repeat the last 2 steps. B) To record a name when manually entering an entry into the phone book: Enter the phone number and the name into the phone book. “RECORD NAME” will appear on the display after both phone number and name are entered. Press and hold the REC button for 2 seconds until the unit plays a “BLEEP” sound, then you can begin to record 2 seconds of name announcement. After a recording is finished the unit plays the recording you have made. To re-record the name repeat the last 2 steps. C) To record a name to an entry in the phone book: Select the desired name/number in the phone book. Press and hold the REC button for 2 seconds until the unit plays a “BEEP” sound. You can now begin to record 2 seconds of name announcement. After a recording is finished the unit plays back the recording you have made. To re-record the name repeat the last 2 steps. TO DELETE A NAME ANNOUNCEMENT. Browse the phone book until the desired record is displayed. Press the MODE button until “RECORD NAME” is shown in the display. Press “C” twice. There will be a “Bleep” sound after the name announcement is deleted. The name and number of the entry will be retained. Specifications.
