The battery compartment is located on the back of the clock. Remove the compartment cover by pressing the cover’s tab which is located in the centre, down towards the base and lift the cover off. Starting from the base of the clock insert the first battery with the protruding plus point to the right, the second battery with the protruding plus point to the left, the third with the protruding plus point to the right and finally the top battery with the protruding plus point to the left. Replace the cover by having the protruding tab at the top, and placing the smaller tabs into the grooves at the bottom. Getting to know your clock: The jumbo display indicates the Current Date, Event Date and the Event Countup and Countdown Time. Beneath the display screen there are five buttons. The first three from the left are numbered 1-3, these are pressed to announce the corresponding event. The fourth button from the left is an Alarm button. When pressed this announces the alarm time. The fifth button from the left is bigger than the others, more rounded and has a raised surface. This is the Time button and when pressed this announces the current time. Under these buttons, in the centre, there is a lip. By pulling this lip down towards the base, the record and set up buttons are revealed. Within this compartment there are two rows of buttons. The three buttons on the top row all have raised surfaces. The first button from the left on this row is the Record button. This is used when you are recording a message for an event. The next button is slightly longer than the previous and is the Play button. This is used to hear your recorded message. The third button actually slides and is your daily alarm button. This is used to select one of the event announcements or a “beep” to be used as your daily alarm. This is achieved by sliding the button to positions 1, 2, 3 or to beep sound. Position 1 is located as far to the left as the slide will allow, positions 2, 3 and beep sound are located to the right of number 1. When sliding the button to positions 2, 3 and beep you will feel the button stop and resist slightly at each position. To turn daily alarms off slide this switch as far to the right as possible. The next row consists of four buttons. The first three from the left are used to set date / time. By pressing the round ‘Set’ button on the far left, you will go through the setting positions for the date and time, with each setting being announced. To adjust any of these settings use the two buttons to the right of the ‘Set’ button. The first of these increases (Up) the setting and the next (Down) decreases the setting. Both of these buttons are arrow shaped. The final button on this row is ‘Enter’, this is used to confirm the settings. Setting the Current Time and Date: Press TIME, then immediately press SET, you will hear ‘Time Set’ and Month will flash on the display. Repeatedly press (or hold down for fast advance) UP or DOWN to set the month. Press SET again then UP or DOWN to set the date. Repeat step 3 to set year, hour and minute. When all are set, press ENTER to store the settings. Event Time and Date: Note: The announcement of an event’s countup and countdown time depends on how the event time and date are set. For example; if the event only has a ‘year’, the announcement will be in ‘years’ only. If the event has ‘years, months and date’, the announcement will be in ‘years, months and days’. If you enter ‘years, months, date, hours and minutes’, then the announcement will be in all of these. If only the time but no year, month and date are entered for an event, the clock will announce only the recorded message for that event with no countup or countdown announcement. And the event becomes a daily alarm as described later in Using The Alarm. Setting the Event Time and Date: Press 1 then immediately press SET, you hear “Event one set” and Month flashes on the display. Repeatedly press (or hold down for fast advance) UP or DOWN to set the month. If you do not want to enter a month, select “- -” which indicates that no month is set. The “- -” appears after 12. Press SET again then repeatedly press UP or DOWN to set the date. Select “- -” if no date is required, this appears after the last day of the month. Repeat step 3 to set the year, hour and minute. Press ENTER to store the settings. To set events 2 and 3, repeat steps 1 to 5. Recording Event Message: The clock announces the name of the event in your own recorded voice. You can record up to 6 seconds of message for each event. Press 1, then press RECORD button to begin recording. REC will appear on the display. When the recording time of 6 seconds is used up, the clock beeps and REC disappears from the display. You can stop the recording anytime by pressing the RECORD button again. To record a message for event 2 and 3, repeat steps 1 and 2. Playing Event Message: Follow these steps to hear the recorded event message. Press 1, 2 or 3 then press PLAY. Playback ends automatically at the end of the message. To stop it sooner, press PLAY again. Announcing the Event Countup and Countdown: The countup and countdown time is indicated on the top LCD. To hear the countup or countdown of each event, simply press 1, 2, or 3 for event 1, 2 or 3 respectively. You can also hear the announcement at the preset time using the daily alarm. Examples of how the event is announced; Event 1 is a future event. Event has year, month, date but no time. Once 1 has been pressed, the clock announces for example; “Event 1, there are 3 years, 9 months, 4 days left until Andrea graduates from college”. The “Andrea graduates from college” is your recorded message in event 1. Note: When a future event counts down to 0:00, the clock begins to count up and the event becomes a past event. Event 2 is a past event. Event has year, month, date and time (hour, minute). Once 2 is pressed, the clock announces, for example; “Event 2, it has been 8 years, 9 months, 4 days, 12 hours, 36 minutes since Steven was born”. The “Steven was born” is the recorded message in event 2. Announcing the time: To hear the time, press TIME. During time announcement, the LCD shows only the time. The clock returns to normal display automatically after 6 seconds. Using the Alarm: You can set up alarms in various ways; Event’s Alarm When the clock counts down to 0:00 of a future event, the clock announces the current time and plays back the recorded message of the event for 1 minute and the time begins counting up. To stop announcement sooner, press any button. If the event has only year, month and date but no time, the clock announces at 12:00am on the set day for 1 minute then repeats every hour on the hour from 7:00am to 9:00pm on that day. To terminate the hourly reporting press any button during its announcement. To re-activate it, press the corresponding event number 1, 2 or 3. Daily Alarm The clock has a separate daily alarm. Press ALARM then press SET and use UP and DOWN to set the hour. Press SET again and use UP and DOWN to set the minutes. Selecting the Alarm Sound Slide the DAILY ALARM switch to 1, 2, 3 or beep to select the event announcement 1, 2, 3 or beep respectively as the alarm sounds. Note: At the time you set, the clock announces the current time and the event count down or countup for 1 minute. If you selected the BEEP, the alarm sounds for 1 minute, then turns off. To turn off the alarm so it does not sound the next day or reset the current alarm time, slide DAILY ALARM to OFF. Using 3-Event Alarms as Daily Alarms To set an Event alarm as a daily alarm, follow the steps in “Setting the Event Time and Date” except you set “- -” for year, month and date, to indicate no year, month or date is set. Note: At the time you set, the clock announces the current time and the recorded message for 1 minute.
