Quick Start Guide

We have loaded the full audio instructions for the Kapten into the unit in the MP3 player.  Please see below for information on how to hear these.

The Kapten can be used in one of several different modes (each mode has it operating as a different device). These are GPS, MP3, Radio, Call and Voice Recorder. These modes can be mixed i.e. you can listen to the radio whilst navigating - the radio volume will automatically be reduced when a navigation announcement is made.

BUTTON LAYOUT:

Hold the unit with the buttons facing you and the flat circular area towards the top. In the centre of the circle you will feel a round button.
This is referred to as the K-tag button.  Around this central button there is a circular area which houses four controls at the following positions; top (12o'clock), right (3o'clock), bottom (6o'clock) and left (9o'clock).  These controls are as follows:

Top: PLAY / PAUSE
Right: NEXT
Bottom: STOP 
Left: PREVIOUS

Below the circle there are four buttons in two rows.  The top row from left to right consists of MP3, GPS and FM. The single button on the second row is the CALL button.

On the bottom left side of the Kapten you will feel a small hole. This is the EARPHONE CONNECTION.  Along the earphone cable you will feel an oblong box; this houses the microphone and the microphone button.

On the top right side you will feel a raised long rectangle.  This is the VOLUME CONTROL.  Press the top end of the rectangle to increase the volume and the bottom end to decrease.
TURNING THE UNIT ON / OFF:

Press and release the STOP control. After 3 seconds you will hear 'Rise and Shine'.  After the initial message the unit may say 'GPS connection is up/down' OR 'Bluetooth connection attempt in progress'.

To turn the unit off press and hold the STOP control until your hear 'I'm so tired'.

If the unit is turned on but not active for around 5 minutes it will automatically switch itself off.   At this point you will hear ‘I am so tired’.  To awaken the Kapten press and hold down the STOP control.

SPOKEN INSTRUCTIONS;

1) Press the MP3 button which will then illuminate. You will hear ‘Choose your listening mode; album, artist, genre, play list, pod cast'.  After the beep say "Album".

2) You will be offered at least one album, including one called 'INSTRUCTIONS'. Press the K-tag button while 'INSTRUCTIONS' is being spoken.

3) You will now be offered several sets of instructions, each dealing with a different subject. Press the K-tag button while the name of the ones you wish to hear is being announced. The instructions will now be spoken.

3) To change the volume, use the volume control on the side of the unit.

4)  You can go through the various instructions using the NEXT or PREVIOUS buttons. If you wish to go back to the beginning of the current instructions, press the PREVIOUS button once, if you wish to go to the previous instructions press this button twice. If you wish to go to the next instructions press the NEXT button.

5) If you wish to pause the MP3 player press the PAUSE button. To continue listening press PAUSE again.

6) To exit the MP3 player press the STOP button.


GPS NAVIGATION TO A NEW ADDRESS;

1)  Press the GPS button to enter the navigation mode.
You will hear a beep followed by ‘Select your navigation mode - pedestrian, bike, motorbike, car’.  Announce your choice after the beep or press the K tag button when you hear your required choice. 

2) You will hear ‘Where do you want to go? - New address, favourites, last trips, contacts, 'K-tag's, points of interest, visits, public transport?’
After the beep say ’New Address’ or press the K tag button when you hear your required choice.

3)  Follow the spoken commands for information, announcing your choice after the unit has finished speaking and you have heard the beep.
You will be asked for the city name, street name and street number,

4) The route will be calculated and the Kapten will ask 'In order to indicate the right direction point your Kapten in front of you and press K-tag button or use any button to pass this step' (this means any of the 4 circular controls, not the lower 4 buttons). Point the Kapten in the direction you are facing and press the K-tag button.  This will allow the unit to determine the direction you are initially facing.  
Please note: if you press any of the circular controls other than the central K-tag button, the unit will not know in which direction you are facing. This may result in initially incorrect directions, which will be corrected once you begin moving. 

5) Once all the information is added, you will hear ‘Itinerary navigation in progress'.  You will then be informed of the journey length, time and other relevant information, followed by the first navigational instruction.  
If you do not have GPS coverage you will also be informed.

6)  To stop the navigation; press the STOP button, you will be asked ‘Do you want to stop the navigation?’ say ‘Yes’ after the beep.  If you do not wish to stop the navigation say ‘No’.
