Cobolt Speechmaster Talking Ear Thermometer Thank you for purchasing your Talking Clinical Ear thermometer with Talking Clock. Please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with these instructions before using it for the first time. If you only wish to use the device as a body thermometer then you do not need to read beyond “Instructions For Use as a Body Thermometer”. Your pack includes the following items:- 1 x ear thermometer 1 x table stand holder 10 x pieces of Probe cover - more of these are available from us should they be required. General Precautions:- 1. Please note that the device is not waterproof and should be cleaned with a soft dry cloth. 2. Use a fresh clean protective cover to avoid any risk of cross-infection. 3. Keep out of the reach of children. 4. Do not touch or blow on the sensor inside the probe. 5. Do not force the probe into the ear or use if the ear is painful, inflamed, damaged or infected. 6. Ensure that the ear is dry before use. On Receipt:- 1. Remove the outer packaging. 2. Lift the oval shaped thermometer from its plastic shell. The clear plastic table stand is located behind the thermometer. The table stand has the same oval shape as the thermometer, with a recess for the thermometer probe at the top and a curved base at the bottom. Place the table stand with curved base onto a flat surface and with the probe recess facing away from you. 3. The ear thermometer itself also has the temperature probe located at the top. When this is aligned with the recess in the stand the thermometer is held securely in place. 4. The white cardboard box located in the packaging below the thermometer contains an additional 10 probe covers and should also be removed from the packaging shell. Description:- The temperature probe with its cover is located at the top and back of the unit. The “Read” button which begins the operation has raised dots and is located at the top edge of the unit. The large digital display on the face of the unit can show the temperature reading as well as the time and date dependent upon usage. There are two triangular shaped buttons below the digital display, above the left hand button is the word “Memo”, above the right hand button is the word “Talk”. On each side of the base of the unit is a hinged arm which can be moved downwards to form a stand . The battery cover is located at the centre back of the unit. The series of holes below the battery cover allows for the sound to be heard. General Information:- If no buttons have been pressed for 3 minutes the display will turn off. At this point pressing any button once will wake the unit up and cause it to display the time, day and date - there is no audible confirmation of this first press. From here you can press any of the 3 buttons, with the following result:- “Read” button - 1 “Beep” and the device begins temperature measurement. See below. “Memo” button - 3 “Beeps” and the device steps through the 30 previous measurements. See below. “Talk” button - The time is spoken. Instructions For Use as a Body Thermometer:- Ensure that a new, undamaged, probe cover is in place before use. The rim of the cover should be pressed firmly on to the probe until it is felt to click into place. The unit is normally supplied with a cover already fitted. Insert the temperature probe into the ear then press and release the “Read” button on the top edge of the unit once or twice until you hear one “Beep”. When the temperature measurement is complete you will hear a short melody followed by the spoken result, which is also shown on the digital display. (If you hear 2 low “Beeps” and the display shows “Lo” then the reading was unrealistically low. You may need to clean the ear, replace the cover or gently pull down on the ear lobe to straighten the ear canal.) Pressing the “Talk” button within 30 seconds will cause the reading to be repeated at a higher volume, after which the device will revert to displaying the time. The normal average body temperature is 36.9 °C. You may find that readings may vary by about 1 °C depending on how the thermometer is held - this is not a cause for concern. The thermometer stores the last 30 readings, numbered 1 to 30. After 30 the earliest reading will be discarded and the latest one becomes number 30. To recall previous temperature readings at any time first press briefly the left hand “Memo” button - you will hear 3 “Beeps” - and then quickly press the right hand “Talk” button to cause the reading to be spoken. (If there are no readings memorised then nothing will be spoken). Each subsequent press of the “Memo” button causes a single beep and steps up to the next memorised reading, which can be heard by pressing the “Talk” button. Once you reach memory 30 you will start again at the first. Please note that each time you use this facility you will begin at the last reading shown on the display. In practice this means that, if you use the feature immediately after taking your temperature, the first reading spoken will be this latest one, then back to the first or earliest, then the second and so on. If you use the feature without taking a new temperature reading then you will start from wherever you last looked in the list. In practice you are unlikely to remember where this was so generally it is best to use this feature only immediately after taking a temperature reading. While stepping through previous readings the temperature is shown on the top of the digital display, below which is the memory number, with the month and day the reading was taken shown digitally at the bottom. e.g. 9/10 for the 10th of September. The display will return to show the time after approx 5 seconds. Instructions For the Talking Clock:- Press the right hand “Talk” button to obtain the spoken time. The date, month, year and day are displayed but not spoken. To change the clock from 12 hour to 24 hour mode:- Press and hold down the right hand “Talk “button for 2 seconds. The letters AM or PM will be shown in the top left hand corner of the display when in 12 hour mode. There is no spoken indication when changing this mode and the spoken time always uses the 12 hour format. To change the time:- Press and hold the left hand “Memo” button for two seconds, until a single “Beep” is heard, to begin the setting procedure. The word “Set” is shown on the display and the hour digits of the clock shown on the display will flash. There is no spoken indication of the time being altered, each further press of the “Memo” button will give a “Beep” whilst advancing the hour shown. Hold the “Memo” button down to increase the digits rapidly if required. When the hour shown is correct, press the right hand “Talk” button - 2 “Beeps” and the minute display will flash. Return to the “Memo “button and again press until the correct number of minutes is shown. Continue to use the left and right hand buttons to alter the year - 3 “Beeps“, month - 4 “Beeps” and date - 5 “Beeps” in that order. 2 “Beeps” indicates setting is complete. Please note that if you change the month then you will erase all the previous temperature readings. To return to the normal display either press the left hand “Memo” button once more - the time will be spoken - or stop pressing any buttons at all and the display will automatically resume showing the time after 30 seconds. Replacing the battery:- Remove the battery cover screw, located just below the temperature probe on the back of the unit, and swing the cover down and off. Insert the batteries with their flat negative ends against the springs then replace the cover and screw.
